actfirst drama® – After School Drama Groups

after school drama groups

Returning to drama and Covid-19 protocols

I’m delighted to inform you that we will be starting back on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th September.  I’m looking forward to welcoming my amazing students back! As always, there will be a maximum of 14 students in all groups. Now, each group will be a ‘bubble’ and, therefore, will not be able to mix with other groups. In order to allow for time to clean and disinfect surfaces between classes, timings will now be as follows:

Tuesdays: Inter 2: 5pm to 6:15pm.   Seniors: 6:30pm to 7:45pm

Wednesdays: Juniors: 3:50pm to 5pm.    Inter 1:  5:15pm to 6:30pm

There will be appropriate safety measures in place, including the following:

  • Disinfecting surfaces (eg tables, chair backs, toilets, taps and washbasins) between classes.
  • All students will wash their hands at the start of their class.
  • Students will each have their own chair or table for their belongings, spaced well apart.
  • Windows and internal doors open to let in fresh air as much as possible.
  • Sneezing/coughing. We will adhere to the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach. Please provide your child with tissues
  • If anyone has symptoms during the class (eg temperature, new persistent cough, feeling unwell) they will be isolated, but supervised, and their parent will be immediately contacted to collect their child and get a test.
  • Drama games, exercises and script work will be carefully chosen so we can social distance as much as possible and avoid physical contact.
  • They’ll still be learning new skills, playing roles, and having FUN!

Established in 1999, the aim of the weekly drama groups is to develop children’s knowledge of drama and performance skills – mainly acting – also incorporating mime and musical theatre (depending on the term’s theme). Also, through drama, to develop the communication, confidence and team-work skills essential to their future careers. The emphasis is on fun!

Each term is themed and culminates in a performance or class demonstration, to which parents and friends are invited. Drama groups take place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (depending on the age of the child). There is at least one performance a year at a professional theatre – usually this is at Hampton Hill Theatre (there is a small admittance charge for these of about £6 – £7 to cover the extra costs).
The drama groups are run by professional drama teacher and theatre director, Jacquie Kirke.

One free trial class is offered to interested students, subject to availability. Please contact Jacquie for details.
